"Exercises for the Quite Eye" at 3pm in our Gallery; guided by Annie Storr
At Frederick Book Arts Center
July 11, 3:00pm

Join us on July 11th for "Exercises for the Quite Eye" at 3pm in our Gallery; guided by Annie Storr, participants will explore and reflect on the current exhibit "America Punctuated".
“Exercises for the Quiet Eye” is an interactive workshop for anyone interested in learning new techniques for viewing art. This workshop is all about doing—exploring, seeing, reflecting, responding. The goal is to avoid a rush to understand prematurely or to arrive at a fixed interpretation of what we see. Guided exercises help participants explore what we can learn from art and artifacts rather than about them. Together, different activities encourage patient reflection, tolerance of ambiguity, and awareness of the shared humanity which connect the artist and the viewer.
The special nature of Storr’s program brings insights to beginners, professional artists, educators and experienced viewers alike and skills to take home. Originally developed in museum galleries, EQE can be integrated into formal education settings and assignments, from teacher training to studio art ‘crits’ and preparation for writing in the humanities.“ EQE workshops have been presented from the National Gallery of Art to the World Trade Center and from large museums to small community art centers."
Annie Storr lives in Silver Spring, MD and Gloucester, MA and teaches at The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester every Fall.
