Internship: Art Communications/Public Relations
Internship Summary:
The Frederick Book Arts Center is looking for one (1) Summer and one (1) Fall intern. This internship will give the Intern the opportunity to learn some of the business mechanisms associated with promotion and maintenance of an art center’s clientele. This intern needs to have strong writing skills and may come from an art, communications, public relations, or business background, but is expected to work under the supervision (and learn to work on tasks independently) of the Communications Director. They will be trained by the Communications Director for these tasks, and should be able to work in a team environment.
Total internship duration is 6 weeks. Successful applicants must be able to commit 10 hours per week for a 6-week period between May to August for Summer and September to December for Fall. At times some of the 10 hours per week can be completed at home, however the Intern must be able to complete their remaining hours at the FBAC anytime during the week (Monday-Friday) between the hours of 9am-3pm. We can be flexible during exam weeks and if more hours are required for college credit, let us know when applying and we may be able to accommodate you. Additionally, the FBAC may run an evening or weekend event and the Intern may be asked to assist, but it is not a requirement if their schedule does not match the date/time.
Primary Internship Responsibilities:

Assist in developing and distributing newsletters

Submit events to the website calendars of the Frederick News Post, Downtown Frederick Partnership, and Visit Frederick

Help develop content for YouTube

Submit content for other relevant newsletters (i.e., Frederick Arts Council, Guild of Book Workers, etc.)

Work on developing the media list to help it grow in contacts

Co-write press releases under supervision from Communications Director

Submit final versions of press releases to local news outlets

Assist with the upkeep of the CRM and class listings on the CRM and website

Assist with event and staff planning
Desired Qualifications:

Should have a great attitude, an eye for detail, the ability to multi-task, strong writing and excellent communication skills.

Should be a self-starter, problem-solver, entrepreneurial, well-organized, work well with others and have a positive attitude.

Excellent written and verbal skills are critical.

Must have general computer skills with a proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe for some basic graphic design.

Should have some familiarity with video editing.

Must be familiar with the Frederick area.

Should have a strong interest in the arts.

Internship: Studio Art
Internship Summary:
The Frederick Book Arts Center is looking for two (2) Summer and two (2) Fall interns. This internship provides the opportunity for a studio art major to work in an active studio in an art non-profit. The Interns will learn protocol for safety and the basic use of our machinery. There may also be the opportunity for independent work. Students in any art studio major/minor may apply, but majors in printmaking, bookbinding, printing, graphic design, photography are encouraged. Interns will be working in the studio with the Executive Director and some other Art staff, and should possess the skills to learn various media at a reasonable pace.

Work closely with our Directors in assisting instructors and visiting artist run classes

Mount exhibitions

Oversee operations in the studios

Help with events such as “make and takes” and show openings

Help ensure that the space is ready for classes and properly maintained
Desired Qualifications:

Should have some prior studio work and interest in Printmaking, Letterpress, Bookbinding, and Photography.

Must have general computer skills with a proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe, particularly InDesign and/or Illustrator.

Should have some familiarity with video editing.
